Carbonarios threaten that Manuel's present to the bride, a diadem studded with two thousand diamonds and emeralds, which is being made in Lisbon, shall never reach ii« destination. They maintain a conconstant watch at the shop where the gift is being manufactured, and the jewellers have requested the Government's protection.
