TOWN BOARD MEETING

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday evening. Present —Messrs \V. (J. .Dudley {chairman), Iodd ; and ltoss. L-OiTesyondenee was read and dealt with as follows:— l<'rom Captain Stevens, in answer to the hall custodian's complaint with reference to damage to hail fittings by Territorials, ami asking for specific cnarges.—The Town Cleric replied that the otficer.s had made enquiries and found that the alleged damage was of a most trivial description.—The Board were satisfied that the staif officers would see that the hall fittings, etc., were not interfered with in future. From the Departmental officer in reply to the Board's question asking if the Defence Department would pay for gas used on dnil nights, stating that if gas accounts were forwarded to the proper quarter they would he paid.—Clerk to send accounts as asked. One of the members complained of obstructions caused to footpaths by spoil cumped on them and left some days. He instanced one particular case."—The clerk to notify the offender that the spoil must be removed at- onco. Attention was also drawn to the fact that several overhanging -hedges were still uncut.—The foreman was instructed to report on them at next meeting. The clerk reported that the Board's solicitor advised that the Board be constituted a leasing authority by Order-iu-Council.—The c-'erk was 'instructed to ask the Municipal Association's solicitor if the Board, having been a leasing authority for years, is it necessary under amended legislation, to be re-constituted a leasing authority?

The foreman reported that during the month he had been busy on general maintenance work, also cleaning out side channels*, making concrete pipes, and putting down concrete kerbing. Accounts amounting to £70 18s Id, together with usual wages sheets, wore passed for payment. The Board then rose. DOMAIN BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Opunake Ejomain Board was held on Monday evening. Present—Messrs W. C. Dudley (chairman), Todd. and Ross.

The caretaker reported that several lots of plants and shrubs, presented by Mr E. Dudley and Mr Mann, had been planted along the ditch and banks. He also reported that some mischievous persons had pulled some of the plants, and had also damaged the windows of the pavilion.

It was decided to refer the matter t< the police.

Accounts were passed for payment and the Board rose.

MISCELLANEOUS

Mr Carrie, tailor of Opunake, sustained some very painful burns owing to a spirit lamp upsetting while he was in the net of pumping air into it. The flames set fire to the wall of the building, but were suppressed before they obtained a hold.

Mr Whittaker, who is severing his connection with the local branch of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. to join Messrs Wilson and Canham, Ltd.. was entertained at the Dainty Tea Rooms by his fellow employees and presented with a case of pipes, accompanied by their mutual good wishes for the recipient's success. xVIr Whittaker suitably acknowledged their gift and good wishesIt is reported that the Pihama Dairy Factory have sold their sesa'on's output of cheese to Messrs J. The annual meeting of the Egmont Open Coursing Club was held on Saturday evening. There was" a. good attendance of members, and Mr Wooiford was ( voted to the chair. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £14 17s, together with assets to the amount of £3 8s 6d. A committee was set up to inspect Mr Campbell's property on tho Thaia, Road and see if it was suitable for fencing and hiring a small piece and planting it with carrots, so as to ensure one good day's sport next season.
