PORT OF LONDON.

ANOTHER VIEW

BX TELEGKArH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. MASTERTON, June 2U. The Wairarapa Age publishes a .letter received Dy the managing director of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company from Gilbert, Anderson and Co., coiomui agant^, of .London, under da^e ; May U, uealing with the proposed establishment of the Bristol and Dominion "Produce Association. Messrs Gilbert, Anderson and Co. state that they cannot •e_Oer.se the statements which nave been made and aro convinced.- : t.ilij.fc tliey.wo*_dcl_ not be supported by anyone with a knowledge or the business. They are, it is asserted, exaggerated and distorted ab much in favor of Bristol as they ar<s against the Port of London. Mr Gilbert Anderson states that one thing, beyond ali others that has retarded the improvement of conditions is that „\ew Zealand farmers have always gone in for cheapness, rather than for efficiency. Shipments arrive with innumerable marks to,numerous consignees, some of whom had a scarcity of business experience. To clear shipments, ii. is suggested that farmers should urge on the New Zealand Government the appointment of a couple of men to watch the discharge of vessels and the loading of cargoes. If this were done, accurate reports on the conditions would-be available, and from the facts ascertained improvements could be effected. In regard to storage accommodation ,Mr Anderson points out that there is cold storage accommodation for 990,800 sheep at tho North-West India dock, which, is much nearer town;, .and. has none of the disabilities of the South-West "dock. They conclude by saying -.' "In our opinion great improvements have been, and are being, made in handling frozen meat. PrptfffJf this, is furnished by the reduced insurance premiums, and further improvements can be effected along-ra-tional and business lines." -
