WELLINGTON CARNIVAL.

(A. FUNNY MISHAP

BY TELEGRAPH— PRESB ASSOCIATION.

WELLINGTON. March 17

Wellington's Easter Carnival, organised for the purpose of raising funds to carry out a scheme of beautifying city reserves, was inaugurated on Saturday with a gala at Lyall Bay. The weather was wet in the morning, but cleared up in the afternoon, and a large crowd witnessed a, programme made up of comic events, including a farce—the landing of Captain Cook and his reception by Maoris in full war panoply. The most amusing part, however, was not on the programme, the capsizing of the two boats in which Captain Cook and his party were landing. Fortunater ly the "discoverers" suffered1 no damage beyond getting wet.
