NORMANBY.
TELEPHONE CONNECTION
WANTED
CI'ROM OTJB OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Last Monday a Normanby lady had some teeth, extracted, and during the night following hemorrhage set in and could not be stopped. An attempt was made to ring up one of the Hawera doctors from the local post office, but ii was found that there was no connection. Morning came, and a young lady friend procured a bicycle and rode to Hawera for medical assistance. Dr MacDiarmid soon arrived, and I am informed that, in his opinion, had his arrival been delayed only a few minutes the resalt might have been fatal to the lady concerned.
Surely, with telephone ; communication betw-en the local post office and Hawera it would not be asking too much if one at least of the Hawera doctors was connected with Normanby at night. This is a matter which the Town Board should take up, and I feel sure that if representation were made at headquarters this state of affairs would be satisfactorily remedied.
