DEATH OF THE MAYOR OF
PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Oct.. 23
The death occurred at an early hour j this morning of William Wilson McCardle, Mayor of Pahiat.ua. The deceased was the second son of the Hon. W.. W. McCardle, M..L.C, and was aged 44 years. He had been in ill-health for che past year, and underwent two seri-. ous .operations, the last one recently in Sydney. He was in his third term as Mayor, and had been a member of the Borough Council for over ten years. He had been connected with many local institutions, and was recently presented with a testimonial and purse of sovereigns, ■in recognition of his services w the district. He leaves a widow and a family of seven. POJERTY BAY SHOW. GISBORNE, Oct. 23. The show was continued to-day. There is a very lar^e attendance, and the weather is fine, but overcast. The championship for draught entire was won by W. H. Jones' Highland Lad, and that for mare .by J. MeKenzie's Bloss. The champion Jersey bull was A. F. Matthews' Banker.
