AUSTRALIA v. DERBYSHIRE.

LONDON, Aug. 4

The weather at the start was fine and there was a drying wicket. The attendance was 3000. The five remaining Australian wickets were disposed of by lunch time. They added 75 runs, of which Bardsley and Webster accounted for 49. Smith added seven to his overnight score, while Bardsley brought his contribution to 23. Emery, following Smith, was dismissed first ball. Bardsley played excellently all round, and made steady headway, while Whitty and Hazlitt were content with three each. After 135 minutes' play the ninth wicket had fallen before the century appeared. Webster batted soundly for 50 minutes. Bardsley was in 145 mintes and gave a hard chance at 22 at mid-on. The next ball he drove hard back, and was almost caught by. Morton, who, with Forester,shared the bowline; honors. The innings closed after 175 minutes' play.

Derbyshire started their second innings on a treacherous wicket, but it was easier after tea. Morton alone was able to make any headway against the bowling.
