On Friday, July 19, at my Waiwakaiho yards 1 had a very large entry of cattle, including a# number of catalogued pedigree Jerseys on account of Mr G. G. Grover, Oakura, and the estate of- E. Handley, Nukumaru, and other vendors. The attendance was very representative, possibly the largest seeu at Waiwakaiho for years. Bidding throughout was spirited, especially for the herd-book cattle and best dairy cows. Mr G. G. Grover's stock were in excellent condition, and realised from IS to 31 guineas. The oows offerered in the estate of E. Handley were in very poor condition, and were not looking at all well, having been trucked through from South Taranaki. They realised from 20 to 31 guineas. I also offered on account of Mr J. Poletti, whose lease has expired, some very choice grade Jersey cows and heifers, which fetched very high prices after good competition, as follows: Cow in 1 milk, £14 10s; springing cows, £13 10s to £16; empty heifers, £3 2s 6d lo £4 10s; very choice line of 2-year colored Jersey heifers, £11; grade bull, £4. On account of Mr E. J. Baker, a line of in-calf dairy cows, at from £4 to £7 10s; on account of other vendors choice young dairy oows realised from £12 to £18 ;. lirsfc-class, £10 to £11 10s: goorL_ £7 15s to £9 10s; aged, £3 10s to £■£) 10s; very choice dairy heifers, up to £12; good, up to £9 10s; store cattle were yarded in good numbers, everything being cleared at the following rates: Mixed yearlings, £1 11s 6d to £3 i Is 6d; empty 2-year heifers, £3 9s to £4 los. according to color;- small 2-year steers and bad colored, £2 6s to £3' ss; aged cows, £2; store cows, £2 16s 6d to £3 15s; bulls, £2 2s to £2 13s; 2-tooth ewes m lamb, 13s. At the Haymarket on Saturday pigs were yarded in bigger numbers than at recent sales. Bidding was very keen, realising the following prices: Siips, ur> to 19s; stores, to £2 4s 6d; porkers", small, £1 15s; small weaners, 7s to 10s; harness mare, £12 10s. At llrenui on Monday I had a fair entry realising as follows: F.m. ewes m lamb, 10s lid to 11s; hoggets, 10s 3d; fat ewes, 13s; yearling steers, £2 9s 6d to £2 16s 6d; 20-months to 2-year steers, £3 Is to £4, acording to sex and quality; store cows, £2 16s 6d to £3 11s 6d; in-calf heifers, £4 12s 6d to £5 0s 6d; dairy cows from ]Ilto£6 17s Sod SPringinglieiferS3 £5 On the same day, in my Douglas yards I had only a small entry, which realised, for dairy cows, from £7 10s to £10; empty cows, £2 18s: 20-months steers, £3 11s; empty 2-year heifers. £3 16s. At Tariki road on the same day I held >t c^ armS sale on account of Mr H R JNoble. 1 had an excellent attendance and good competition right through. Ihe cattle were a choice lot, and some cry , hlgh prices were obtained. Mr Noble s cows averaged, with the exception of two three-teaters, £14 2s 6d for the line; choice 2-year springing heifers, from £7 to £15. His yearling heifers (very well done) sold, after spirited bidding, at £4 to £9 los; two choice coirs were offered on account of Mr T Body, and were sold at £28 and £VQ respectively. Prices obtained: Yearling heifers, £4 to £9 15s (average £6 ds); 2-year in-calf heifers, £7 to £15 (average £11 13s 4d); dairy cows, to £i< 10s (average £14 2s 6d); threequarter cows, £5 to £6 ss; bull, £6heifer calf, 30s; black gelding, £25 ss; •'>;iy mare, £10. In. my Stratford yards on Tuesday, 26vd, owing to the wet weather, stock did not come forward up to advertised numbers, but I had a good entry, practically everything being cleared. Good empty 20-months to 2-year heifers were m strong demand.
