JUNIORS.
WAIMATE (3) r. HAWERA (0)
This match was played at Bayly Park, Hawera, on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Waimate by 3 points to nil. In the "first spell the Waimate team had slightly the better of the game, and F. Wallace managed to get across Hawera's line. The kick at goal was not a success. The home team Droved superior in the second spell, notably in loose forward rushes, and came near scoring on sftveral occasions. The game was regarded as the best seen on Bayly Park this season, and the issue appeared m doubt until the whistle blew to end the play. Both teams played strenuously, notably the forwards, the play h^ confined mostly amongst the latter. The teams in this department were pretty evenly matched, though Hawera showed more dash in the loose forward rushes. The collaring of the Hawera backs was not as effective as it might have been. For Hawera Barlow and Castles, in the rear division, were very safe. All the forwards worked hard. Wallace, Meuli (2), Bourke, Hughes (2), and McCook were the most noticeable players for Waimate. This win gives Waimate the leading position in the junior division for South Taranaki. Mr Lees made an impartial referee.
