The building trade in Hawera continues to be satisfactory. The value of permits issued by the Borough Engineer for June amounted to £3,177.

Mr Horace Dixon, Postmaster at Manaia, has been added to'the list of postmasters authorised to take the statutory declarations.

A Gazette notice declares the Patea Hospital and Charitable Aid Board a local authority for the purposes of the Public Health Act.

The Hawera Borough Council has received a circular dated a little back from the New Zealand Employers' Federation, with reference to a plea for the complete industrial organisation of all employers of labor in New Zealand. The circular states that the serious condition of the dominion industrially and politically at the present time calls for earnest consideration by all classes, and particularly by employers of labor, and those having any stake or interest in the country.

The Hawera Borough Council on Wednesday evening decided that the civic reception to Commissioner Richards, of the Salvation Army, should take place on July 20, at 11.30 o'clock in the morning. The Council, however, will be unable to take any official part in the afternoon's proceedings.

The Hawera Drill Hall, in Prince's street, probably one of the oldest landmarks in the borough, which has been lett by the defence authorities in favor or up-to-date premises in the Winter bhow .buildings, is to be removed from the present position to a site in the norough yards. This decision was arrived at by the Hawera Borough Council on Wednesday evening. The engineer said it would cost about £40 to remove the building, which he purposes to use for storing metal, -etc. Cr. Sargeson raised the point as to whether the hall could be legally moved, seeing that it was supposed to be held in trust by the borough for the volunteers. The Mayor pointed out that the defence authorities would no longer require the buildnig, and as far as he could ascertain there would be no obstacle in the wav of removing it. It was built on borough land, and the present site could be let to advantage. If there were ever a o aim for the building, he had no douH *»at this could be settled without difficulty. It was further decided to allow the Gymnasium Club to use the hall free of cost until it was removed.
