THE CAMPBELL BEQUEST FOR AGRICULTURE.
BY TELEGBAPTI—PRESS ASSOCIATION
AUCKLAND, June 27. Dr McDowell, a member of University College Council, in conversation with a Herald repeater, referred to a bequest of £20,000, to establish a chair of agriculture, from the late Sir John Logan Campbell* to the University College. This splendid bequest would help to fill one of the most pressing needs in the Auckland province, namely the establishing of an agricultural* college on lines of Lincoln College in Canterbury. .The latter college admirably served the needs of the South Island." and such a college in the North Island was badl'v needed.
Another gentleman who is intimately connected with University work iii Auckland, said "an experimental farm will be absolutely necessary Hn connection with the chair. It is likely that the Government will assist with a grant of land for the nurpose. A site should ye secured within easy reach of Auckland by tram or railway, so that the students might avail themselves of t.be scientific instruction obtained in the I'mversity College and get practical bivmi'nr experience at the experimental farm."
