SCHOOLMASTERS' ASSISTANCE REQUESTED.
81 TBL&JBAPH—PBESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, June 25. Reporting to ' the Education Board •U-day o«l the request of the Post and Telegraph Department for the assistance of the headmasters in securing for ■Uie Department the services of suitable ft«ys who have passed the sixth standard with proficiency, the Chief Inr>pector, Mr Fleming, gtated that headiuasters have readily expressed wheir wilJiagness to d« all in their power to a^<rist the officers of the General Post " Office in their efforts to obtain suitable boys. As a matter of fact, maay of tke keadmasters at the present time give information to merchants and others ■when asked to make suitable recom- • mendations for vacancies. It is considered, however, that if merchants, man--1 agers ©f insurance and other offices, Vaukers, etc., made a practice of inN forming headmasters of vacancies, and ,«f asking for recommendations of suit- - -able bojs, better results would be ob■^ained than by merely advertising, and board was recommended to place view before these officers, and L was no necessity to require the ]i Iceettng ef an extra register, as the adI mkssron and examination registers con- : tamed the names and school records of /^""Till boys passing through the school, and [ "headmasters were willing that these rep. peters might be seen by ihe recruiting I 1 officers, and in addition they would fi ixive all the information required.
