THEFT OF MONEY.

A PLEA OF GUILTY

In the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr Kenrick, S.M., Alfred .Percy Hall, on remand, was charged on two informations with theft, in that he received front Edmund George Jones the sum oi £10 IDs 3d, and £17 from i'r. H. Sorenson. on terms requiring him to account for the same to merchants, and that ho did fraudulently convert, the money to his own use.

Mr ODea appeared for the accused, who pleaded guilty to both informations.

Sergeant Griffith stated that the accused had been doing business for manufacturing firms in the Old Country, and had failed to account for the moneys giren him for those firms. The a ecu's, ed had not informed the police of what he had done with the money. Mr ODea asked His Worship to deal leniently with accused, and thought this •was a case in which probation might be granted. The accused had promised to make reparation to the people from whom he had received the money. Counsel reminded his Worship that in case he could not eeo his way to give probation, he had power to impose a fine. In replying: to the Magistrate*, accused said he had spent the money on himself m various ways. The Magistrate' asked if there were any previous convictions. Sergeant Griffith said there were none. The Magistrate said that as there ■were no previous convictions, accused on the first charge, would be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called hoop, on the condition that he paid the £10 19s in 12 months Accused would also be dealt with in a similar manner on the second charge The two sums were not heavy Amounts ior a young man who was prepared to work to pay. If accused failed to nay the moneys or misbehaved himself V any way at all he would be brought before .le Court for sentence on the nr-s«nt charges.
