Bowling analysis: Rushby, 5 for 76; P'tatt, 1 for 66; Hayes, 3 for 63; Hitch, 0 for 14; Harrison, 0 for 18; Bird, 0 for 23; Hobbs, 0 for 17. The weather was bright and cool and the wicket fast. The attendance was small. Matthews partnered Macartney, t-3i> latter reaching his century in 175 minutes, with the total at 200 for 180 minutes' play. Matthews, by good off driving, reached"sß, when he was caught at long-off by Bird off Hayes. Six wickets for 226. Macartney was clean bowled in the same over while attempting to drive. He had batter for 195 minutes and hit 18 fours, and his innings was chanceless. Emery and HazTttt were then together, the latter goin a; out leg-before to Rushby. 8 —5 — 233. Carkeek scored four and was bowled by Rushby. Emery and Whitty add-t>-d 36 for the last wicket. The latter was easily caught at cover by Hobbs, off Rushby. Hayward and Hobbs opened to the bowling of Whitty and Emery. Hayward was uncomfortable and was out ]a.;r before to Emery with the score 8 — 1—25. Hobbs, vho was batting splendidly, at 81, was dismissed by Maclaren (substitute for .Terming), oy a magnificent catch at Ionn;-on off Hazlett. His score included a six and 12 fours. Strudwick was cleverly caught at shorties? by Maclaren off Emery for 2 —7 — —I^B* Bird was bowled hitting across at Emery. He made 68 in 75 minutes, including 2 sixes and 8 fours. Rushby was bowled by Emery and Hitch was absent owin<r to a chill. The innings closed for 205, with Platt not out for 7.
