The annual meeting of shareholders , of the Hawera Electric Light Company Avas held on Friday afternoon, when Mr E. Payne (chairman of directors) presided over a large gathering of shareholders, some of whom came from Manaiii and Patea. The report and bal-ance-sheet were read and adopted, shareholders congratulating the directors on the successful year's work. A general discussion followed, the tenor of which ■was in the direction of suggestions to the directors to give every encouragement to every possible payable extension. A dividend of 5 per cent, was declined. Ti?e Hawera Electric Light Company* lias now installed two 65 kilowat stators at its power house. This is to assure safety in case of any burn-out. nrt(\ means that they have now "spares" and can make absolutely certain that the power can be re-instated within an Tronr in the event of any accident of any kind. The stators also ensure another hundred horse-power of current on -the present plant or 400 h.p. in all. The /new Mirrless-Diesel engine which the wcompanv is importing \yill add still an\o|her 200 h.p,, thus giving an output of.current equal to 600 h.p. if required.
