An iron drum containing lOcwt. of ■sulphuric acid exploded on the wharf at New castle, splashing its contents over live men Avorking in the vicinity. "Grainger, a laborer, received the full force of the acid on his face and body; Smith, a laborer, was also frightfully burne:!. The others were solnshecl on the arms and face. The injured men screamed and writhed with the excruciating pain. Smith plunged into the liarl>oi\ Wherever the acid touched any of tV< men's clothing it fell to pieces.
