Bird drove Hazlitt for 6, and later hit a ball from Emery over the top of the pavilion, and brought the total to a century in 120 minutes. Bird i/6) was,in for 110 minutes, and was Smartly stumped. He scored two sixes and'ten fouvs. The partnevshin contributed 98 in 100 minutes. The last four wickets added only 8 runs, Whitty taking one and Emery three wickets in the last overs. The Australians have lost five wickets for 102 runs. Macartney and Bardsley played carefully. When the score had reached 46 .rain stopped play for 35 minutes. After the partnership had lasted an hour and Tidded 53, Bardsley was bowled by Hushby at 42, and Jennings run out through Macartney's fault at 11. Kelle- I way_ was bowled by Hayes without scoring. Macartney, by "skilful play and attractive leg strokes, has scored -53. Five wickets are down for 102.
