AN INVITATION DECLINED
TRANSPORT WORKERS AND FARMERS' UNION. BY TELEGRAPH- PEESS ASSOCIATION.
AUCKLAND, May 15. In the course of a letter to the secretary of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union regarding an invitation to a representative of the Farmers' Union Trading Association to attend a meeting of the transport branch of the New Zealand Federation of Labour at Arlington, on May 15th, with a view to arriving at an amicable settlement on the question of the handling of obnoxious cargoes, the secretary of the Auckland branch of the Farmers' Union says, inter alia, "There is difficulty in regard to the conference proposed by you, inasmuch as it appears to be dominated by the Federation of Labour Association. My union entirely disapproves of the expressed aims and methods of that Association, and while anxious to consult and agree, if possible, with your union, dec'ines to send any representative of the Farmers' Union to take part in the deliberations of the NewZealand Federation of Labour. At the same time, our union desires to carry out and continue the understanding arrived at when we met to consider the question of handling manures."
