BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY

A WATER TOWER SUGGESTED

A special meeting of the Hawera Borough Council was held on Monday night m connection with the proposed schemes tor improving the water supply of the borough. There was a full attendance, and tne Mayor (Mr A W Gillies) presided. The borough solicitor {Mv R. D. Welsh) and Mr H X Whittmgton (ex-Mayor) were also present by invitation.

The Mayor explained that the meeting had l)een convened for the purpose of conferring with Mr A. D Dobson, C.E., of Christchurch, who had come to Hawera to' report on a scheme to improve the water pressure. Mr Dobson, who had been favored with fine weather, had made a thorough inspection of the present main and intake, and would give the Council not his exact report, but the conclusions he had already arrived at. His Worship then moved that the Council go into committee.

Thi£ was seconded by Cr Reid, and the motion was carried.

Upon resuming, the Mayor announced that the Council had passed a motion recommending the adoption of a water tower scheme, and that Mr Dobson be requested to report fully in regard to it.

The Mayor expressed to Mr Dobson the heartiest thanks of the Council and of the citizens of Hawera' for his promptness in coming to Hawera.

Mr Dobson briefly replied. This was all the business, and the meeting adjourned.
