SENIORS. PATEA (0) v. OKAIAWA (16).
For the first, time for three years the Patea Seniors visited Okaiawa on Satur. day. In the first spell the visitors, playing with the wind, but facing a strong sun, had all the best of the play, and were within an ace of scoring on several occasions. Their heeling out in the scruni3 and handling of the ball generally was much better than that of the local team. When the local backs did obtain possession their efforts were nullified by faulty passing. The spell ended without any score being registered by either side. On resuming the home team livened up somewhat. When in Patea's 25 McLeod obtained possession, and, beating several opponents with a nice dodgy run, grounded the ball in a good position. M. Lynskey kicked a good goal. Upon resuming Okaiawa again attacked. The ball came out to loro, who dribbled over the line, G. Huney failing on the ball. No goal resulted. Okaiawa continued aggressive, and it was not long before M. Lynskey got over. Toro converted. Shortly before time was called, McLeod scored his second try, but no goal resulted. The game was remarkable for the number of free kicks given against the local .team, and in the first spell especially they were penalised every two or three minutes for off-side play. While the fairness of the referee is not questioned, there is no doubt that the Okaiawa team had the worst of the luck in this respect. Mr P. Sheahan had charge of the game. Okaiawa, 16; Patea, 0.
