POLICE AND MINERS IN CONFLICT
BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. NEW YORK, May 11. Striking miners at Scranton, Pennsylvania, broke' a police cordon which was surrounding the strike-breakers, and mishandled many of the latter. They threw bricks and used clubs. A fierce melee resulted for half an hour. Several strikers were fatally hurt. The troops finally came to the policemen's rescue.
Women took a prominent part in the attacks on the police, and six were arrested.
The disturbances were chiefly fomented by the foreign element.
