MEREMERE-OHANGAI.

On Monday evening last a pleasant dance was held in Mr J. Hunter's wooished. There was a good attendance and all appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly. Mr Burns supplied the music for the dances, Mr McDonald playing-the extras. Messrs Jennings and Kerrisk were the M.C.'s. During the evening songs were given by Messrs Stevenson and Sheahan and a recitation by Mr Chissell.
The sports, postponed from the previous Wednesday on account of bad weather, were held during the day and attracted a good number of people. The events were all well contested and brought out some good times for the various distances. The principal results were as follows:—Maiden, 150 yds —Mr Daisley. 100yds—Carey, 1. Married Men's Race—Mr Tau. 220yds—R.* G. Graham, 1. Hop Step and Jump— W. Minhinnick, 1. 440yds—H. L Slight, 1. 880yds—J. Stevenson, 1. One Mile—T. E. Taylor 1. Maiden Leaping —M. Scott's Nettle, 1. Leaping—A. Piper's Native, I.' Rescuing Comrade— J. Kerrisk, 1. There were children's and ladies' races during the day. A. Piper stepped the exact distance in the chain stepping, and R. Buckley won the sheep-guessing with 3221bs (exact weight, 3231b5). Judges, handicapper, starter, timekeepers, all worked hard to ensure success. The hon. secreretary had all necessary arrangements, and everything worked smoothly.
