LONDON, May-7. After lunch the weather became threatening. There was an attendance of 3,000. Bardsley and Gregory took the score to 22 by slow play, when the former was caught at short slip by Jones off Riley, who 10 runs later secured Macartney lbw. Wass nearly bowled Minnefct with his second ball, but the batsman did not last long, being caught at 49 by Alletson at deep square-leg. Riley and Wass were bowling well, Mayne hit wildly across a delivery from Riley, and was howled. Gregory and Jennings took, the score from 59 to 94, when the former was bowled in attempting tojrall Riley, after a sound and restrained innings lasting 100 minutes. Iremonger had relieved Wass at 88. Matthews assisted Jennings, who was batting stylishly, to hoist the century after 110 minutes' play. At 105, immediately after the tea adjournment, Matthews was caught at the wickets, and two runs later Hazlitt was run out! Carkeek and Jennings raised the total to 144, when the former was caught at the wickets. At 157 Jennings, who had for 105 minutes played a judicious innings marked by skilful driving, was run out in atterooting a second run for a cut, Hardstaff returning smartly.
