For the opening day of the Egmont Racing Clutfs 1912 Winter Meeting, which opened at the Hawera course today, beautiful weather is being experienced, and the attendanlce is large. The caretaker, Mr A. Morse, has the course and grounds in excellent order, and good fields in all events have so far been the tirder of the day. Speculation on the totalisator is brisk, and the meeting appears likely to prove very successful all through.

Along the back the last-named went to the front, but .with three furlongs to go was supplanted by Silver Cluse. who led into the straight and won easily by four lengths; a length separated second and third. Crawford- was quickest to move, and led along the back from Royal Simon and Eastwiiid. At the far turn Katua got on terms and led into the straight, where Ea&twrnd and Draft caught him, a good finish resulting in favor of the latter by half a length ; the same distance separated second and third. With half the journey covered, Plantation was in front, and stalling off a determined challenge at the distance from Con the Shaughraun, won all out by a bead, two lengths seoarating second and third. From a good start Nebulous showed the way along the back to Princess Flo and Aviatrix. The last-named was in charge turning for home, and, going on, won comfortably by 2* lengths, with 3* iengths between second and third. Time", 1.0 l 1-5.
