STAMPING MACHINES.

DISCOUNT ABOLISHED

*V T»L»4iBAPh—PUESB ASSOCIATION.

NAPIER, May 6. Recently the Postal Department notified the abolition of the 14 per cent poundage allowed to merchants on the returns of their automatic franking machine. Mr Vigor Brown, M.P., at the request of a deputation made representations to the Postmaster-General on the subject, but Mr Ell has replied regretting that he cannot see his way to reinstate the poundage, as the expense of making the collection and allowing credit to the holders is so heavy that it materially reduced the amount collected for postage.
