A TRAIN AND A TROLLEY

FOUR MEN KILLED

MELBOURNE, April 18. A train at Warburton crashed into a trolley containing sixteen men. Four men, named Peberdy, Hallam, Baxter, and James, were killed, and several others were seriously injured.

A portion of the Warburton line was being re-laid, and the men wei-e proceeding to work.

The trolley was running down a deep incline near Wan din, and the rain made the lines slippery. The men lost control of the trolley, and ran on to a bridge just as the train from Warburton rounded a curve. There was no time to avoid a collision.

Two men named Hayes and Ryan jumped off the trolley, and fell over the side of the bridge and were terribly injured. The others were thrown in all directions. Besides the four killed, eight were injured by colliding with the train.

The injured men were conveyed to Lilvdale Hospital.

Later reports state that only four were killed. The others jumped off before the collision. Only three were injured, two rather seriously. The others suffered from shock.
