A lengthy discusstrion took place as to the necessity of coming to some agreement with the Hawera County Council regarding the repairs urgently needed on the county roads, especially that leading to Okaiawa. The Clerk stated that last year about £20 had been expended over and above the county rate and subsidy, and up to the present for the current financial year, upwards of £120 had been spent, leaving only a small balance to be expended ,whtch would be quite inadequate to even patch the road. Eventually it was deLcided, on the motion of Crs Davies and < K'emp, to write to the Minister for Public Works, asking permission to erect a toll gate on the Normanby-Okaiawa road, and the Clerk was instructed to prepare a statement of expenditure on the county roads for the last two years and forward it to the Clerk, Hawera County Council and also to draw attention to the fact that the Board had exceeded the amount agreed on to be spent on these roads.
