A NEW STEAMER SERVICE

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT,

(Received Jan. 30, 9 a.m.)

SYDNEY, Jan. 30

A British Embassy official visiting Sydney states that the Japanese Government has offered a subsidy to a new steam service to the South Seas, which will probably start on March 1, confining its operations to the Caroline and Gilbert groups, and outlying islands. Later it will probably go to other places. He did not think Australia need fear a Japanese overflow, but they were looking towards the South Sea Islands, and he did not. see how they could be kept .from going there.
