A special meeting of'the Town Board was held in the office on Monday evening. Present—Messrs Christie (chair), Borrie, Bigham, Meuli, and Coagrove. As to applications for the positions of ranger, sexton, etCj it was decided to hold over .those received* .and ; call for fresh ones for cow and dog tax collector, ranger, sexton, and nigntsoil- contractor. The chairman reportedr that W. Sutton, foreman of the Board, had re T signed that position., It was resolved that the resignation ,be accepted, and that applications be called for tne position of foreman at a salary of £140 a year .
The weekly half-holiday was fixed for Wednesday, as previously., It was decided to procure 50 cow collars, to be marked M.T.8., and numbered from 1 to 50 for registered cows; also that the dog tax b© 2s 6d for cattle dogs, a,nd 10s for other,classes. ;Mr A. Elliott, a very, old resident, of the Waimate Plains^ passed away at Manaia on Monday •morning.
The Waimate Horticultural, Agricultural, and Industrial Society holds its annual show at the Manaia Recreation Grounds on Wednesday, February 21. Gillies and N alder hold their annual horse fair at the Horse Bazaar, Hawera, on Saturday, January 27. ■ - The Sunday-school picnic in connection with St. Mary's Church will be held at Ngaere on Friday, January 26.
