Mr G. Y. Canton, for some time borotigh foreman, left this morning to take up his new appointment at Taumaranui. On Saturday afternoon, Mr F. W. Wilkie, president of the Hawera. Bowling Club, took occasion when members had assembled for tea, to wish Mr Canton good fortune in his new home. He had been a good member of the club, .and.would be missed off the green..Mr Cantonsretuifiied' thanks for the kindly things said! of him. He was sorry to end hi., association with the Hawera club, in connection with which he had made many friend's, and he hoped to hear of its continued' successMr T. S. Ronaldfcott, of the Public Trust office, is a visitor to Haiwera, where he is spending part of a short holiday with Mends. Mr C. \V. Higgins, head teacher of Kapuni School, had the ill-fortune to contract scarlet fever at the commencement of* the Christmas holidays, and is (inly out of quarantine in time for the year's work about to commence. A London cable says that Eart Carlisle is dead. A Vienna cable says that Counfc Aerantliel, Austrian Minister for Foreign Affairs, is in a critical state of health. The P t ev A. H. Colville, vicar-elect of St. Mary's, New Plymouth, will be instituted in his new charge on Friday next.
