GISBORNE, Jan. 18. Harry Field, aged 45, single, a carter, employed by the Public Works Department, met wiiii a serious accident at .iiaKauroa, near/Gisborne, to-day. Field was driving an empty dray along a narrow road, when tljfe horse shied, and precipitated the vehicle over a cliff, and all fell 70ft. to the bottom. The man was thrown clear of the dray, but received a serious injury to his back, and was badly bruised. He was conveyed to town this evening by train, and admitted to the hospital. His condition is not critical.
