(Received Jan. 19, 10 a.m.) PEKIN, Jan. 18. Investigations show that wires were stretched across the street forcing the cortege to stop. The outriders dismounted and cut the obstructions with their swords. Yuan Shih Kai's escape was due to the first bomb thrown from the verandah not exploding. Nine persons have died as the result of the explosion, and six soldiers are in a critical' condition. Forty arrests have been made.
The Sowerdy, relief mission has arrived at Pekin from Shensi. Shansi and Honan report on the anarchy and outlawry of the revolution*aries. The Imperialists are equally lawless. Many women were brutally murdered, and the towns and villages are deserted, the inhabitants hiding in caves in the mountains.
The mob at Sia-fu surrounded the Beckman School and fired it, butchering the .fleeing children with axes, spades; and spears. The city gates were closed for four days, while the mob murdered ton thousand people.
