Whilst the police occupied Parliament Square well-organised: groups of suffragettes were engaged in twos and threes in window-smashing. First mixing with the crowds on the pavements, they suddenly produced stones, hammers, and catapults, *and smashed scores of windows of Government offices, private houses in Whitehall, Parliament street, Victoria street, the Strand, and also Lord Haldane's and Mr John Burns' private residences, the Daily Mail's headquarters, and the Daily News office.
