A most satisfactory dramatic and jttusical performance in aid of the pavilion fund of the Hawera Tennis and Croquet Club was given by local amateurs on Thursday at Mrs G. H. Brown's house. Three rooms linked with folding doors were thrown into one, and made quite a good little theatre. Two little plays were given. The first was entitled "Thirteen," and depicts the misfortunes -arising out of that unlucky hunioer. Miss Turton played the part of Mrs R. Hartop, Miss M. Moore, Garrett the maid, and Mr Page that of Mr R. Hartop. A farce entitled "Freezing a Mother-in-Law" caused much :-.musement. The characters represented were:—Mr Watmuff (Mr Bell), Ferdinand Swift (Mr Kimbell), Walter Litherland (Mr Cox), Mrs Watmuff (Mrs Bell), and Emily Watmuff (Miss Williamson). A piano duet by Mes--dames Raine and Roe, song by Mr. Crump, ladies' double trio by Miss D. Hughes, violin solo by Mr W. Hutchens, and song (comic) by Mr Zachariah, made up a good musical programme. There was a packed house. The audience was most enthusiastic. It is to be hoped that with so much dramatic talent the company will be seen again on the stage. There were many willing assistants. Mrs Raine was responsible for the make-up of most of the cha> acters and did the work well. By the performance the club's funds will benefit very materially. Why "buy sonfis at so much each -when you can have 100 popular songs, splendidly bound, for 2s 9d, or posted anywhere for 3s.—E.
