WELLINGTON, Aug. 18

The Native Affairs-Committee, consisting of Sir James Carroll, Hon. Mr Nsata, and Messrs Jennings, Herries, Mander,' Parata, Rangihiroa, McDonald, Seddori, arid' Dive', sat this morning to investigate the M6kau lands transaction, this course having been decided upon by the House. Mr Jennings occupied the chair. The Committee decided that witnesses be examined On path. -

; Mr Massey was the first called; before. : the . Committee. ; He stated that he' .understood the Government, by re- • ferring the matter; to the Native Afr ■fairs Committee, intended', that it should receive the fullest investigation. ;He submitted a list of witnesses he intended to call, namely, Mr Joshua •Jones, Mr Bowler (.chairman of the Maniapoto Land Board), Mr Herman Lewis, Mr H. D. Bell, Mr T. McDonald (Otaki), and Mr Hardy (Te Kuiti). ' !He. had very little to say beyond what cc had already stated on the platform and in the House. He asked that the made by him should be contradicted by Sir James Carroll. . ( The Committee decided to commences the enquiry on Tuesday next, when Mr Massey will state his case. The Committee then adjourned.
