OPUNAKE BRANCH.
The annual meeting took place on Saturday. The Chairman (Mr L. E. Jackson) gave a resume of the year's work. In his remarks he stated that the year had been prosperous for them throughout the Dominion, especially in this district. He considered that the farmers were realising that to enable them to procure the very best market for their produce they must co-operate. During the year the membership of their branch had increased, and the majority of the new members were young farmers, which in itself was satisfactory. He '. referred with regret to the death of one of their most esteemed members, Mr A. Cross, which had left a gap that will be hard to fill. Owing to stress of : business Mr Jackson said he would be unable to be present at the conference, but Mr Conaglen had consented to fill the position. Nor would he be able to further act as their chairman, as he was unable to devote enough time to the work. The balance sheet showed a net cash credit balance of £2 17s Id, the membership being now 53. Report and balance sheet adopted. The following committee were elected:—Messrs Allan, Brennan, Stevenson, Forsyth, Lambie, McHardy, Macfie, McGregor, D. Holmes, J. Young, W. Fennell, C. Malcolm, J. Conaglen, and R. Warner; chairman, Mr J. McHardy; vice-chair-man, Mr A. Allen; secretary, Mr J. Tosland; auditor, Mr G. W. Rogers. A vote of condolence was tendered to Mrs Cross and family in their recent bereavement by the death of Mr A. Cross. •*
