[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] j A meeting of the Manaia State, School Committee was held on VVeomes- ■ day evening. Present: ivjessrs Hunt j (chair), bnowden, Donald, Candy, ! .bridge (secretary), and Key. Jlowes, ■' also Mr iiindon, headmaster, in attend- ] ance. A letter was received, from the .Board notifying the appointment of | Miss Ansell. The headmaster reported that Mr Jir6wne had reported adversely i Upon the school gardens, also upon the ) attendance,, whien was very unsatisfactory on the school re-assembling after the holidays. Mr Bindon stated that since the report has been sent a decided improvement had taken place. The committee dealt with the business of repairing", fencing, ploughing, etc.; to be attended to by the Visiting Committee, viz., Rev. Howes, Messrs Snowden and Donald. Accounts to the amount of £6 were passed -tox; payment. A working bee under the control of the Beautifying Committee was held'in the Domain on Wednesday, and got through a considerable amount of work in clearing up the grounds and removing dead timber from the trees and otherwise trimming them. It was de- , cided to hold another next Wednesday, when it is hoped there will be a larger 1 number of townspeople, as well as the members of the committee.
