PLANTATION TRAGEDY.
A NATIVE'S DEATH. BY TELEGEAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, April 6. On Marcn 12^ on the plantation of William John Wigmore, at Rarotonga, a native named More was shot dead by a rifle. The acting medical officer held an enquiry, and found that More lost his life by a gunshot wound accidentally inflicted by Wigmore. Wigmore was formally charged wiun manslaughter and released on £1000 bail. Subsequently statements were tendered to the Registrar of the High Courtvbv the police and persons who stated that they were eye-witnesses of the occurrence, and whose evidence was not given at the enquiry. These being in conflict;;with the evidence given, the Registrar:'took their sworn depositions,: which- the Resident Commissioner sent 'forward to the law atithorities of New Zealand for instructions. . ; A sad feature of the affair is that More was a friend of Wigmore's, and was spending the day at the plantation on Wigmore's invitation.
