ATHLETICS.

AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, April 5. The decision of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic I Association to hold the Australasian championships at Wellington has caused a good deal of comment here. The officials of the Otago centre complain of the Council's action in over-riding the opinion expressed at the recent conference of centres, and express surprise at tne action of the Otago delegates in ignoring instructions and not letting the centre know beforehand the attitude they intended to take up. It is also asserted that there has been no difference of opinion nTtae Otago centre as to the advisability of Otago endeavoring to secure the Australasian championship meeting. The only division of opinion, it is stated, was with regard to the stand that should be taken concerning the expenses of the meeting, but that was due to some members thinking a certain course respecting expenses might prejudice Dunedin's chances of obtaining the meeting.
