CHAMPIONS AT RIVERTON. BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION. INVERCARGILL, Dec. 28. The feature of the Riverton Athletic Society's sports to-day was the presence among the competitors of Holway, of America, the world's champion professional sprinter, Trembath, the New Zea- j land middle distance champion, and McLaughlan, the well-known Napier runner. Holway, who is on a tour of New Zealand, arrived from Hobart on Monday, and will leave to-morrow morning for Timani. The ground was very heavy. The principal event (100 yards handicap) was won by White from the 10 yards mark, with Holway (scratch) second, and Trembath (3 yards) third. Trembath, starting from 4 yards, won the 220 yards, with McLaughlan (8 yards) second, and Walker (20 yards) third. Holwa\ was unplaced. At Balfour on Tuesday McLaughlan won the Sheffield Handicap and the half-mile.
