MOTORMAN CRUSHED TO DEATH.

BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.

AUCKLAND, Nov. 30. Thomas A. Thompson, a single man, residing at Ponsonby, and employed as a motorman on the electric tramways, was killed at 10.45 last night. His car suddenly caught fire. The flames were extinguished, but the car was disabled. Another car, driven by Frederick Christmas, was being attached to the disabled car when a third car, driven by motorman Ernest Dawe, came up and bumped into the second car. Thompson was stooping between his own and the second car, fixing the coupling, and was crushed between the buffers of the two cars. Death was instantaneous. The occurrence was witnessed by fully one hundred people, including ladies, and caused a great sensation. Thompson was a fine athletic young man, 30 years of age.
