WATER POWER SCHEME.

LAKE COLERIDGE PROPOSALS. BY TELEGBAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 2. The Mayor has received an answer from thhe Minister of Public Works to his letter with reference to the approximate date .of the inauguration of the Lake Coleridge hydro-electrical scheme. The Minister states that he anticipates being a Die to make a commencement in regard to the scheme almost immediately," so far as the necessary surveys and engineering investigations to locate sites are concerned. It was, however, improbable that any construction works will be put in hand for a few weeks, ana, at any rate, not until after Parliament allocates the necessary money. It is understood that the work of erecting a house foi the use of the survey and engineering staffs in the vicinity of the probable site of tlio power house will be put in hand almost immediately. 1 A survey party under Mr Boyle is going out to the Lake Coleridge district at once, and will survey the line of the race and conduct the borings for the foundations of the power house.

The suggestion has been made by persons interested in the moving-picture industry that shows for the benefit of the steerage passengers be given on the trans-Atlantic liners. Thousands of such travellers cross the ocean every week, and the six or seven-clay voyage sometimes becomes very tedious. The first and second-class passengers might also find shows on steamships interesting.
