EXPRESSMEN ON STRIKE. BY CABLE— PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT. NEW YORK, Oct. 30. The expressmen's strike at Long Island is spreading. Further rioting has occurred. The strikers attacked the strike-breakers . NINE EXPRESS COMPANIES AFFECTED. 5000 MEN IDLE. (Received Oct. 31, 9.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 30. Nine leading express companies of New York are affected by the strike. The militia will probably be called •ut. A special reserve of 9000 has been formed for emergency riots. Fifty persons were injured in a fight with the Armed- detectives are protecting the strike-breakerg. Five thousand men are idle. There is a huge quantity of undelivered goods perishing. GOVERNMENT LABOR EXCHANGES. (Received Oct. 31, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 30. The Government intend establishing 150 new Labor Exchanges during the next few months. STRIKERS SENT TO GAOL. (Received Oct. 31, 8.45 a.m.) PARIS, Oct. 30. Secretary Day of the Laborers' Union has been sentenced to eight months' imprisonment. Numerous other exemplary sentences were passed on strikers convicted of violence towards non-strikers.
