As a result of the recent strike of rifle range markers, the Minister of no member of naval or military forces Defence has issued a regulation that shall be required to do work or act in place of civilians who refused to work because of a dispute about wages, hours, or conditions of labor, until the matter had been referred to the Minister and his consent to do such work obtained. PLASTERERS' STRIKE. (Received Oct. 29, 9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 28. The plasterers' strike continues. A large number of men are affected. It is reported that 25 masters are paying the higher wages demanded. MELBOURNE, Oct. 29. The boys who sweep the city streets have struck work, and demand an increase in pay of sixpence per day. FRUIT-GROWERS' PROTEST. (Received Oct. 29, 9.30 a.m.) HOBART, Oct. 29. The Fruit-growers' Conference carried a resolution against any attempt to fix the wages or hours of labor in rural industries.
