Apparently a considerable number of members are in favor of further facilities being afforded the Leader of the Opposition in connection with his Parliamentary worjs. Upon the vote for the payment of the Ministers' secretaries, during the discussion on the Estimates' on Friday, Mr Fisher (Wellington Central) urged that provision should be made for the salary of a secretary to the Leader of the Opposition. ("Hear,, hears" from both' sides): H« went on to' say that Mr Massey had a lot of work to do in the interests of the country. ,
Mr Glover (Auckland Central) warm ly approved the proposal. Mr Fisher, in the course of furthej remarks, said that the Leader of thi Opposition, in the Canadian Parliamen received £1000 per annum. The Hon. D. Buddo gaid that he wilfully aware of the enormous amount o. work every member had in hand. On< recognised that the Leader of the Opposition had a great deal more to <k than any other private member. Mr Witty : What about the Leader ot the Labor party? Mr Buddo added that the matter was one which he had no doubt the House would take" into consideration.
