LONDON, Oct. 15. The meeting Mr Lloyd-George had arrangjW to address at Mountain Ash on tho/SOth inst., has been suddenly postponed, the Master of Elibank explaining that it was difficult and undesirable for the Chancellor to speak at this juncture. • This is interpreted in some circles to mean that the Veto Conference has reached a critical, and, perhaps, not stage. Sir Gilbert Parker, in a letter, says it is inadvisable to wholly oondenwi the payment of professional politicians. Four hundred organisations and two great political parties would deter 1 'carpet-baggers." Mr R. D. Isaacs, a Liberal, speaking at Manchester, said it was not supposed that anyone expects «. complete reversal of the Osborne decision, which had closed the door of the House of Commons to the wage-earners. Voluntary collections were .unsatisfactory. He would welcome a reduction of election expenses, even making them a public ■charge. The Labor Party are issuing a manifesto which demands the payment of mc-mbers, but not as an alternative to the reversal of the Osborne decision.
