FEDERAL POLITICS. [press association.] (Received August 19, 12.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 19. In the House of Representatives Mr Bamford obtained leave to introduce a bill providing for a referendum on amending the constitution to reconstruct the States, and the elimination of the State boundaries; to abolish the State Governments and substitute a uniform system of Government throughout the Commonweatlh and to divide Australia into provinces, each with a Parliament consisting of one house with such powers as are conferred by the SPederal Parliament. Although leave jfws granted, members briefly annourjjled their intention to oppose the Bill later. CABLE SUBSIDIES. MELBOURNE, August 19. The cable subsidies debate was continued. An • amendment that steps be taken to complete the All Red Route and substantially reduce the terminal charges in Australia was defeated. The resolution was carried. OBITUARY. MELBOURNE, August 19.. The death is announced of Mrs Gordon, wife of Brigadier-General Wales, State Commandant.
