KAKARAMEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Two of our local residents, Miss Irvrm, post-mistress, and Miss Roberts, have just returned from an enjoyable trip to Auckland. The former lady was enjoying her annual leave and her place was filled by Miss Benner, of Patea. While in Auckland Misses Irwin and Roberts visited several educational institutions, including the Teachers' Training College, and the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, a leader upon which recently appeared in the columns of the Star. They were fortunate in seeing the latter institution in full working order and expressed surprise ana pleasure at the useful and varied occupations carried on, from type writing in the primary department to basket and rope manufacture in the trades department. a. large number of settlers have taken advantage of the off-season by trimming their boxthorn hedges. There is one thing about boxthorn, it provides a good supply of manual labor every year. A few ruts and weak places on the road to Eatea have been filled in, and this road is now in excellent condition. As reported in your columns, Mr Joe Fainveather has lately joined the ranks of the benedicts., ' The prizes at euchre last Friday evening were woii by Messrs Abbott and Slcan, and Misses A. V. Carey and N. Kerri&k. Thos«> in the van were Mr Ryan and Mrs Butler. .
