At the annual meeting of the Otago centre of the New Zealand Athletic Union, it was. unanimously resolved that a committee be set up to consider the desirability of forming an association for the government of professional athletics in tbe South Island, representing societies and competitors, and a committee was appointed to deal with the matter. This_ was carried, in preference to one moved by the President (Mr C. E. Keast) that the Otago centre secede from tlie New Zeaiand Union and form a provincial district similar to that in Aiickland. '

The sale of Mr S. R. Farquhnr's herd of dairy cows is advertised to-day by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. The herd consists of 50 cows, Ayrshire-Shorthorn cross, and is looked upon as one of the very best in the whole of the- Awatnna district. Buyers, it is said, are not likely to have another chance this season of securing such good stock. The Ayrshire-Short-horn cross are heavy milkers and good average testers. The average of butter fat from this herd for the past season was considerably over two hundred pounds per cow for the whole herd.
