At the Education Uoard't> mee'ciuj^ to-day, Mr Wallace moved in accordance with notice, "That the recommendation of the Teachers' institute that no male teachers receive an appointment of £180 & year, and no rema-le teachers an appointment of £150 a year, unless he or she has served at least two years as head teacher in a country school, be approved by the Board." The mover said the present system was apt to keep teachers too long in the country, and the motion aimed at remedying that state oi affairs. Mr Harris, who seconded, said he knew cases where teachers had never been five miles out of the city, while others had been in the country all their Lives* After discussing the suggestion cf the chairman that the matter be referred to the Chief Inspector to advise, was adopted-
